The line graph illustrates changes in popularity of three different activities, namely Swimming, Team sport, and Gym activities, in a UK sports club within a period of 20 years (1983-2003).
Overall, the data indicates that there was a surge in popularity of all activities, with the exception of Swimming (which experienced dwindling popularity).
The most noticeable trend appears to be the involvement in Swimming which from the most desired activity turned into the least desired one. In 1983 around 50% of club members participated in swimming, while this figure decreased steadily to 15% in 1998 and bottomed out until 2003. In contrast, gym activities gradually met with a more improved reception, from the least desirable to the second most desirable one. Its figure experienced a considerable increase from 5% in 1983 to more than 20% in 1998 before leveling off at approximately 25%.
Another noteworthy trend proves to be the modest growth in percentage of participation in team sports which became the most liked activity at the end. Remaining virtually constant for initial years and overtaking the percentage of Swimming, its figure increased slightly to nearly 40% from around 30%.
