Periods (.)
1. Use a period at the end of a complete sentence that is a
statement.
Example: This is one way of learning.
2. If the last item in the sentence is an abbreviation that ends in a
period, do not follow it with another period.
Example: Please clean, cook, etc. We will do the laundry.
3. Question marks and exclamation points replace and eliminate
periods at the end of a sentence.
Example: No kidding!
Commas (,)
1. Use commas to separate words and word groups in a simple
series of three or more items even before the last one.
Example: My thank-you goes to my mother, father, and my
brother.
2. Use a comma to separate two adjectives when the order of the
adjectives is interchangeable.
Example: She is a strong, healthy woman.
BUT NOT HERE: He is a nice family man.
3. Use a comma to separate two independent clauses.
