Colon (:)

                  1. Use colon to make a list of a series of things. Do not also write the
next word after a colon with any capital letter.

Example: I need a helping hand in the following areas: collecting

data, editing data, and encoding data.

Example: I need happiness, wealth, and above all love.

NOTE: Do not use a colon before a list directly
                      following a verb.

                  2. Use a colon when the second sentence is further explanation,
illustration, clarification of the first sentence or even a quotation.

Example: He worked so hard for a while: he worked from six in the
morning to eleven in the evening.
Example: my dad taught me a good lesson: always stay strong.

Example: He always rightly told me: “Work hard. Play hard.”

                  3. Use a colon to start a formal or business letter with the salutation.

                  Example: Dear Peter Cooper:

                                                                                    www.selfstudyielts.com
